Exceptions to our policies must be approved by a patient’s care team.
The care team will work directly with the patient or the patient’s guardian/support person to determine appropriate exceptions.

Inpatient Units (Including Critical Care Unit) and Emergency Room Observation, Annex and West Units
Two adult visitors (age 18+) may visit per day during normal visiting hours. Visitors may be together or one at a time.
Visiting hours are 1-7 PM, seven days a week.

Emergency Department
Adult patients are allowed one support person, while minor patients are allowed two parents/guardians during their stay.
To ensure the safety & privacy of our ED patients and colleagues, there may be times we ask support people to wait outside the treatment area.

Maternal Fetal Medicine
Patients are allowed to have one support person (age 18+) accompany them to outpatient appointments. Children under the age of 18 years old are not permitted.

Labor & Delivery/Maternity
Patients may have two support people during labor and birth. One support person may visit freely for the duration of a patient's stay.
A doula is also permitted for labor and birth.
No COVID-positive individual is permitted to be present as a partner/support person during labor, birth, or on the Maternity Unit.

Outpatient Surgical Services
One support person may accompany a patient to the surgical center and to the pre-surgery area.

Visitors assisting an impaired patient or with a minor child will be allowed.
Patients with prenatal ultrasound appointments may be accompanied by one support person.

Patients who do not require assistance are asked to arrive at our offices alone.

At this time, visitors are not permitted at Health Express unless medically warranted; minor patients may be accompanied by one parent or guardian.
Visitor Guidelines
South Shore Hospital visitors must enter through the McKim Family Main Entrance.
Visitors will be screened for wellness and will be asked to sanitize their hands.
Visitors must remain in the patient's room. We ask that you refrain from eating or drinking and keep your mask on for the duration of your visit.
Mask Policy for Visitors
Per CDC recommendations for health care settings, visitors are required to weardisposable medical masksfor the duration of their visit.
Visitors must wear a facility-issued mask upon entry to the hospital.
Cloth masks, masks with vents, scarves, bandanas, neck extenders/gaiters, and handkerchiefs are not permitted.
Refusal to wear a mask will result in the revocation of visitation.

To help patients stay connected with their loved ones, we encourage the use of personal electronic devices (FaceTime, Zoom, etc) whenever possible.
